Modern-Day Treasure Hunt: Geocaching

He was killed by the state militia on April 20, 1914, during the Ludlow Massacre. His heroic death encouraged state and federal lawmakers to pass legislation protecting the rights and dignity of the working class.

First Day Hike
Start off the New Year with an invigorating walk or hike at Trinidad Lake State Park. It's a great way to cure cabin fever and burn off those extra holiday calories. There are three hikes available ranging from rigorous to casual. Refreshments will be served at the end of the hikes (approximately noon). Participants will begin each hike by meeting at the Visitor Center.
Rigorous
Starts at 10am. A difficult to strenuous 30-mile hike on Reilly Canyon Trail will include some hills and descents, along with wildlife viewing opportunities, so bring you camera an binoculars!
Moderate
Starts at 11am. The one-mile Levsa Canyon Trail is a moderately challenging hike as it winds its way through forest and meadow with panoramic views of the lake from the mesa rim. Fifteen interpretive stations along the way share the area's history and specific native plants.
Casual
Starts at 11am. An easy, wheelchair and stroller accessible 3/4-mile walk on the paved Park View Trail. There are 16 interpretive stations exploring the area's history and specific native plants, as well as a large playground. Perfect for the whole family.

Join Park Interpreter Pat Patrick in welcoming Colorado Parks and Wildlife District Wildlife Manager Bob Holder as he presents the Youth Archery Program. This event is a great opportunity for youngsters to learn more about this rapidly growing type of outdoor recreation and try their hand at using a bow. Archery is one of the world's oldest sports. It is safe and fun when done properly. Instruction on the finer points of archery safety and shooting a bow will be presented. Activities include target practice, a fun shoot, and a 3-D shoot. All equipment is furnished; no personal equipment is allowed. Boys and girls must be 10 years of age or older and accompanied by a parent. The program will begin promptly at 3pm in the Carpios Cove parking lot area. All vehicles must have a park pass.

Mark Hanson “turns over a few rocks” on Carpios Ridge and talks about what he finds. Mark is a trained volunteer with the Colorado Spider Survey, a biotic inventory project assessing the biodiversity of spiders and other arachnids in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain and Great Plains ecoregion. Include your name, address, contact phone number, date of birth, mailing address, number of people attending and the location (Trinidad Lake State Park) and date of the course you are interested in attending. Manuals will be sent to the registered students. Students must read and study the Boating Safety in Colorado manual prior to attending the course, so they should sign up early. Boat-operator cards will be issued to students who attend the course and pass the final exam with a score of 70 percent or above. Students must bring their $15 registration fee and a 1" x 1" photo of themselves, which will be laminated onto their operator card.

Youth Archery Program
Join Park Interpreter Pat Patrick in welcoming Colorado Parks and Wildlife  District Wildlife Manager Bob Holder as he presents the Youth Archery Program. Activities include target practice, a fun shoot, a 3-D shoot, and instruction. Boys and girls  are invited to attend but must be accompanied by a parent. Instruction on the finer points of archery safety and shooting a bow will be presented. All equipment will be furnished; no personal equipment will be allowed. This event is a great opportunity for youngsters to learn more about this rapidly growing type of outdoor recreation and try their hand at using a bow. Archery is one of the world’s oldest sports. It is safe and fun when done properly. The program will begin promptly at 3pm in the Carpios Cove parking lot area. Include your name, address, contact phone number, date of birth, mailing address, number of people attending and the location (Trinidad Lake State Park) and date of the course you are interested in attending. Manuals will be sent to the registered students. Students must read and study the Boating Safety in Colorado manual prior to attending the course, so they should sign up early. Boat-operator cards will be issued to students who attend the course and pass the final exam with a score of 70 percent or above. Students must bring their $15 registration fee and a 1" x 1" photo of themselves, which will be laminated onto their operator card.

Was Dolores Baca Trinidad’s first historic preservationist? The Bloom Mansion restoration, old carriage house, mystery of the steps, and Dolores Baca are some of the fascinating topics and
personalities featured on this tour that takes you behind the scenes and under the ground. Limited to 12 people who must be at least 12 years old, able to climb stairs and move in cramped spaces. Museum staff and Jonathon Fernandez of Fernandez Plumbing and Heating lead the tour.

Lead in Trinidad is a biography of Officer Lewis M. Kreeger, legend of the Southwest and Trinidad. Kreeger served as a law-enforcement officer from 1871-72 to 1913 and had a reputation for being quick and deadly with six guns. The book was written by Bob Silva, Kreeger's great-grandson. Offered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Students must pre-register by calling 303-791-1954 or by sending an email to boating.safety@state.co.us. Include your name, address, contact phone number, date of birth, mailing address, number of people attending and the location (Trinidad Lake State Park) and date of the course you are interested in attending. Manuals will be sent to the registered students. Students must read and study the Boating Safety in Colorado manual prior to attending the course, so they should sign up early. Boat-operator cards will be issued to students who attend the course and pass the final exam with a score of 70 percent or above. Students must bring their $15 registration fee and a 1" x 1" photo of themselves, which will be laminated onto their operator card.

First Day Hike
Start off the New Year with an invigorating walk or hike at Trinidad Lake State Park. It's a great way to cure cabin fever and burn off those extra holiday calories. There are three hikes available ranging from rigorous to casual. Refreshments will be served at the end of the hikes (approximately noon). Participants will begin each hike by meeting at the Visitor Center.
Rigorous
Starts at 10am. A difficult to strenuous 30-mile hike on Reilly Canyon Trail will include some hills and descents, along with wildlife viewing opportunities, so bring you camera an binoculars!

Starts at 11am. The one-mile Levsa Canyon Trail is a moderately challenging hike as it winds its way through forest and meadow with panoramic views of the lake from the mesa rim. Fifteen interpretive stations along the way share the area's history and specific native plants.
